Defect and Foreign Object Detection (DFOD)

The Defect and Foreign Object Detection (DFOD) unit provides a quality control point for cheese blocks entering a processing plant, prior to further processing.

Industry Dairy Med
Need to scan naked cheese blocks for mould and foreign material contamination in a high hygiene area?
The Defect and Foreign Object Detection (DFOD) unit provides a quality control point for cheese blocks entering a processing plant, prior to further processing.

Suitable for both bagged and unbagged product, the DFOD detects foreign objects that are 10mm (0.39”) in diameter or larger, and visually distinct from the cheese.

For bagged cheese, detection is most effective when the mould sits beneath a single layer of clear plastic. Image quality and, therefore, detection accuracy can be reduced where multiple layers of plastic are present, such as in areas with gussets, folds, or seams over the cheese or mould.

Benefit

  • Provides a quality control point prior to slicing or shredding, after bag removal
  • Efficient and reliable machinery with meticulous detection
  • Full washdown capability makes it suitable for high hygiene areas
  • Automating the cheese inspection process means reduced labour – allowing staff to be re-deployed to higher value work
  • High tolerance to dimensional variations of product

Features

  • Throughput rate of 12 per minute
  • Inspects all 6 sides of the block
  • Simple product setup with minimal training, with simultaneous ongoing training and inspection
  • Best-in-class deep learning anomaly detection with advanced cameras and lighting
  • User-friendly, easy-to-use HMI for operators, supervisors, and technical setup
  • IP69K-rated motors, gearboxes, and field devices
  • Hygiene design for easy cleaning
  • Compact size for easy integration into new or existing lines
  • Customisable to inspect different block sizes

Previously known as the H&C Defect and Foreign Object Detection, this was originally developed by Haden & Custance (H&C), which is now part of MHM Automation.
