Automation Engineer
Hastings  |   Permanent

The Role:

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Automation Engineer to join our team, based out of our Hastings office. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing and programming industrial control and automation systems for Material Handling projects.

Working independently or as part of a team, you'll take ownership of automation projects from start to finish - including software development, troubleshooting electrical systems, and interpreting technical drawings. Your focus will be on delivering efficient, high-quality solutions that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations.

This is a hands-on role where your problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and project management capabilities will directly contribute to the success of each project.

About You:

  • Be tertiary qualified in a relevant subject or Electrical Trade qualified
  • Have experience in PLC programming
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and automation systems
  • Have a good eye for details and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise, and manage time effectively
  • Be able to work autonomously or part of a team

Fabricator
Hastings  |   Permanent

The Role:

Based out of our Hastings Workshop and a key part of our Manufacturing team, this role supports the manufacturing, installation, and after sales operations of MHM Automation. You will use your mechanical engineering and fabrication skills to build and assemble automated machines, read and interpret engineering drawings, and accurately set out and finish steel work and components. This role involves fabricating a variety of projects, and the opportunity to participate in activities intended to improve quality, safety, and skill development.

About You:

  • Trade Qualification in Fabrication or similar
  • Previous fabrication experience in a mechanical or manufacturing environment
  • Experience in MIG/TIG welding, stainless and mild steel fabrication
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask
  • Strong desire to develop and succeed

FP&A Analyst

The Role:

The FP&A Analyst plays a critical role in driving financial performance and supporting strategic decision-making across MHM’s manufacturing and project-based operations. This position is integral to delivering financial insight, supporting planning cycles, and partnering with operational teams to enhance cost and margin performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining robust financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives.
  • Preparing accurate cashflow forecasts and liquidity analyses to support business planning.
  • Conducting variance and trend analysis to identify performance drivers and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborating with business unit leaders to develop and monitor budgets that align with organisational goals.
  • Preparing timely management reports that provide clear, actionable insights for leadership.
  • Working cross-functionally with project, operations, and engineering teams to translate financial data into meaningful business insights.
  • Supporting annual and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Identifying opportunities for value creation through cost management and margin enhancement.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, or analysis within a manufacturing, industrial, or project-based setting.
  • Advanced financial modelling and Excel skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex data clearly.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and partner across multiple business functions.
  • High attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Experience with ERP systems and business intelligence tools (advantageous).

Mechanical Design Engineer
Christchurch  |   Permanent

The Role:

Working out of our Head Office in Christchurch, you will contribute to the design, development, and commercialisation of bulk materials, timber and mild steel fabrication projects, creating detailed designs of machines/systems and working with inhouse robotics, machine vision and automation professionals. In this role you will take the design lead on specific projects, and ensure design is undertaken within project budgets and timeline, whilst progressively developing and implementing improved systems and processes in line with the Engineering team. You will also work closely with the wider Projects and Workshop teams to ensure operating and cost efficiencies are obtained, quality and safety standards are achieved, and deadlines are met.

About You:

  • Skilled in 3D Cad (AutoCAD, Inventor-).
  • 7+ years demonstratable experience in materials handling (crushing, screening, conveying, or timber processing, or grain handling)
  • Experience in statutory design (pressure-containing equipment) advantageous. This could include boilers, pressure vessels, tanks and silos.
  • Familiar with regulatory standards beneficial (AS/NZS1170, AS1210, NZSEE, NZS3404, AS1100)
  • Experience in concept and manufacturing processes and procedures (fabrication, assembly, quality inspection)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Be able to develop and maintain relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and customers
  • Be a pragmatic problem solver focused on finding solutions
  • Be competent in Microsoft Suite
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to challenge and push boundaries in the interest of efficiency

Service Technician
Hastings  |   Permanent

Based out of our Hastings office, you will use your strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with customer representatives, in this customer facing role. The Service Technician will predominantly travel throughout New Zealand & Australia to perform scheduled maintenance, respond to emergency breakdowns, and ensure the optimal functioning of our equipment at client sites. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the expansion of this business area by identifying new service opportunities and coordinating with the Servicing and Sales teams. Ensuring the safety of our customers, their staff, and our team members is of paramount importance, and you will be expected to adopt best practices in all aspects of your work.

About You:

  • Trade Certificate in Fitting, Mechanical Technician
  • Experience in Automation and/or food processing equipment would be advantageous
  • Ability to systematically diagnose faults and provide well thought out solutions
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Be able to develop and maintain relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and customers
  • Be a pragmatic problem solver focused on finding solutions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Hold a current Passport allowing for International Travel when required.
